Aliso Viejo was planned as a single community and incorporated in 2001, which makes it one of the newest cities in Orange County — and it shows in the layout. Nearly everything was built from the 1980s through the 2000s: neighborhood clusters with their own association and pool, a continuous system of sidewalks and paseos, and Aliso Viejo Town Center as the commercial and civic middle, with the library, the theater and the grocery all in one place.

The Aliso Creek Trail runs the length of the city, and the western edge opens directly into Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, a large canyon preserve that connects toward Laguna Beach. Housing is condominiums, townhomes and detached homes of the same era, at a range of sizes; the 73 toll road and Alicia Parkway handle the commute, with the 5 a few minutes inland.

Lifestyle

The Aliso Creek Trail on foot or by bike, hikes into Aliso & Wood Canyons, movie night and errands at Town Center, and a short drive over the hill to Laguna's beaches.

Housing

Consistent in age, varied in size: condominiums and townhomes for a lower entry point, detached homes in the interior clusters, almost all of it inside an association with shared pools and greenbelts.

Why we love it

Trail-and-canyon access from a city that was designed around it.

A practical middle point between the coast and the 5 corridor.
