Laguna Niguel is a hillside city, planned in phases from the 1960s onward and laid out along the ridges between Aliso Creek and the coast. Neighborhoods sit as named communities — Niguel Summit, Marina Hills, Bear Brand, Beacon Hill, Crown Valley Highlands, Laguna Sur — most with their own association, pool and greenbelt, and many with an ocean or canyon view from the upper streets.
Laguna Niguel Regional Park and its two lakes are the center of gravity, and the ridgeline trails — Badlands Park, Sea Country, the Aliso Creek corridor — connect the city toward Aliso & Wood Canyons and down to the coast at Dana Point. Crown Valley Parkway and La Paz Road feed the 5 and the 73, and the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink station sits at the north end. Housing is 1970s–2000s single-family, townhome and condominium product, almost all of it planned.
