La Jolla is a community of the City of San Diego built along seven miles of bluff and cove coastline. The Village — Prospect Street and Girard Avenue — is the walkable center, with La Jolla Cove, the Children's Pool and Scripps Park a block away; behind it the land climbs to Mount Soledad, and north of the Village sit Bird Rock, La Jolla Shores, and the Scripps and UC San Diego campuses.

Housing follows the terrain. Cove-adjacent and Village blocks hold condominiums and older cottages, La Jolla Shores and Bird Rock are single-family streets, and the Soledad hillsides are where the view lots are. Getting around is Torrey Pines Road and La Jolla Parkway to the 5; the airport is about fifteen minutes south.
